MeetingHouse Groups: Fall 2007 — Spring 2008

 Over the next eight months MeetingHouse groups will be studying God’s character through the acronym CASKETTM (Creation, Abraham, Sinai, Kings, Exile, Temple). This title may seem morbid, yet it reminds us of an important event that begins in the first few chapters of Genesis with Adam and Eve. This is the inescapable reality that we all face, that is, the reality of death. The first few chapters of Genesis make it clear that death came to Adam and Eve as a result of sin. As we journey through the Old Testament, we’ll see that the problem of sin is revealed in the story of Israel. Sin, in fact, increases for God’s people who, like Adam, are transgressors of God's law. And the wages of sin is death. So the Acronym CASKETTM is a reminder that sin, which leads to death, is the underlying problem of the Old Testament. The solution to sin is ultimately found in the death and resurrection of the Messiah, that is, CASKET EMPTY. The empty tomb is the climax of the Old Testament story.
